Managing assignment attempts settings

Use the steps in this article to modify your students' assignment attempts settings.

Monarch is a web application that can be used on a browser on any device. To account for the smaller screen real estate on mobile devices, Monarch's menus are tucked away so that you can more easily view what's currently on your screen. Students can make a set number of attempts at each assignment type. The default number of attempts, including the first attempt, is:

  • Lessons: 3
  • Quizzes: 1
  • Tests: 1

You can change the number of assignment attempts allowed to students at the default level (all courses) or for each individual course. When a student has multiple allowed attempts for an assignment:

  • Students: Students can choose to retake the assignment with every previous answer visible and editable. A Redo assignment button is available for students to use in the player and a Redo button displays on the Course card and the Assignment Details header.
  • Parents: Parents can choose to reassign assignments to students, allowing the student to retake the assignment with every previous answer visible and editable. A Reassign button is available on the Course card and on the grading page for parents to use.

Accessing assignment settings

  1. Access the Manage Academic Settings page.
  2. For the applicable student, click Change assignment attempts.
