Students: Player overview

The Player is where the student completes lessons. Use this article to learn about the features of the Player.

 Mobile devices

The Player cannot be used on a mobile device or a tablet held vertically.

Accessing the Player

To access the Player, reference Students: Viewing assignment in the Player.

  Feature Description
1 Title The title of the course and assignment are in the header.
2 Close Click Close at top right to return to the student dashboard.

3 Tools

The tools at top left vary depending on the assignment. If the tool is available, it displays in dark grey. If it is unavailable, it displays in light grey.

Click one of the following tools and a window displays with information:

Tool Description
Vocabulary

Click to access vocabulary words for the lesson. Not available on quizzes and tests.

Objectives

Click to view objectives for the assignment.

To exit the tool, click the X at the top-right side of the window.

4 Section numbers

Section numbers show how many sections (pages) make up the lesson. The page a student is on is shown in dark grey.

5 Accessibility tools

Click to use each accessibility tool. 

When the feature is on, it displays in dark grey.

To turn off a tool, click it again.

Feature Description
Read aloud

When the feature is on, students can click or highlight any text to have it read aloud.

Use the settings to customize the reader.

Translate

When the feature is on, students can click a line of text and view a window that translates the text to another language.

Dictionary

When the feature is on, a dictionary is available to define any word (not just the vocabulary words of the lesson!).

Students can double-click or highlight any word in the assignment and a definition displays in a window.

Focus

Focus lets students highlight the line of text that you're reading.

Students can use the mouse to scroll the focus bar with what they're reading.

Use the settings to customize the size and type of the bar.

6 Navigation tools

Find the navigation tools at the bottom-right of the player.

Tool Description
Previous Click Previous to go back to a previous section of the assignment.
Next Click Next to view the next section of the assignment.
Save

Click Save to save your work.

If they want to, students can Close out of the Player and return to complete the assignment later. Their work will be saved.

Submit

When students are finished with an assignment, they should click Submit to submit the assignment for grading. 

If they have not answered all of the questions, a warning message displays.
